Notice of Special Meeting of Members for the Pacific Training Centre for the Blind Society

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT A SPECIAL MEETING OF MEMBERS OF THE PACIFIC TRAINING CENTRE FOR THE BLIND SOCIETY WILL TAKE PLACE VIRTUALLY BY ZOOM AND STANDARD TELECONFERENCE AND IN PERSON AT 380 CARDENA DR., BOWEN ISLAND, BRITISH COLUMBIA, ON THURSDAY, DECEMBER 22, 2022 at 5:00PM PACIFIC TIME (8:00PM EASTERN TIME).

The purpose of this meeting is to consider the following motion:

Whereas the membership of the Pacific Training Centre for the Blind Society (The Society) seeks to have the Society change its mandate to be a land trust for land acquired under the current capital project the Society is undertaking in partnership with the Canadian Organization of the Blind and DeafBlind and any future capital project the Society may choose to involve itself with;

Whereas the purpose of creating such a land trust is to protect the land for use by blind and DeafBlind Canadians in perpetuity;

Whereas the membership of The Society seeks to change the Society’s name to reflect the change in mandate;

Whereas the results of the Name Request received from the BC Corporate Registry indicated there the name previously approved by the membership of The Society would require additional work to be undertaken by The Society in order to be approved;

Whereas the membership of The Society seeks to change the purposes of the Society to reflect the change in mandate; and

Whereas the Society is completing the transfer of its Blind People In Charge program and other such programs to the Canadian Organization of the Blind and DeafBlind on or before March 31, 2023;

Be it resolved that the membership of The Society change the name of The Society to “Bowen Island Land Stewards Society for Blind and DeafBlind People”; and

Be it resolved that the membership of The Society change the Society’s legal purposes from :

“(a) To relieve conditions (societal and otherwise) associated with blindness by establishing and operating a training centre (utilizing the structured-discovery learning instructional model) which provides education and other specialized services for the blind
(b) To advance education by providing (blind-led and positive philosophy-based) workshops to the general public on conditions (societal and otherwise) associated with blindness and the blind
(c) To undertake activities ancillary and incidental to the above-mentioned charitable purposes”

“(a) To establish, operate, maintain, and hold in trust in perpetuity, on behalf of blind and DeafBlind Canadians, blind and/or DeafBlind-led national recreation, training and meeting centres, primarily for the use of blind and DeafBlind Canadians, which provide education and other specialized services for the blind and DeafBlind in order to relieve conditions (societal and otherwise) associated with blindness and DeafBlindness; and
(b) To undertake activities ancillary and incidental to the above-mentioned charitable purposes”
