Are you a teen or adult who is blind, Deafblind, or low vision? Do you like having fun and learning new things? If you answered yes to the above, then keep reading to find out about Camp Bowen’s 2021 Virtual Summer Camps: Virtual Connections and Virtual Music Camp.

While we are sad we can’t meet in person this year, we still have lots of fun in store for you in the 2021 camp roster. We are really excited to be sharing a virtual space with all of you where many fun virtual adventures will be had. As the world prepares to reopen later this year, we look forward to returning to in-person camps in 2022 and seeing all of our old and new friends at Camp Bowen. In the meantime, let’s go forth and have fun this summer at Virtual Connections and the Virtual Music Camp!

Virtual Connections

Virtual Connections is the first of our two virtual camp offerings this summer. It is a speaker series featuring 4 speaker sessions, each followed by an opportunity to get together with fellow virtual campers and either play games or simply socialize. Each session will feature a different speaker, on topics such as martial arts; how blind people can participate independently in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM); and others. More details on the full schedule will be posted closer to the dates.

Virtual Connections will take place on July 27 and 30 and August 3 and 6, 2021, each time from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM Pacific (6:00 PM to 9:00 PM Eastern). It will be open to Canadians who are blind, Deafblind and low vision ages 13 and up from across the country. The social interaction components will be divided by age bracket, into teen and adult groups. Thanks to the generosity of several grantors, Virtual Connections will be offered free of charge, though donations to our Bowen Island Recreation, Training and Meeting Centre capital project are welcome.

Do you like exploring new types of music or have you ever wanted to write a song?

The Virtual Music Camp is the second of our two virtual camp offerings this summer. It is an exciting program that will both look at song writing and music exploration. Each of the four sessions will be followed by an opportunity to get together with fellow virtual campers and either play games or simply socialize.

The Virtual Music Camp will take place on August 10, 12, 24, and 26, 2021, with two bonus music trivia sessions on August 17 and 19, 2021. Each session will run from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM Pacific (6:00 PM to 9:00 PM Eastern).
