Welcome to the Foundations of Independence Camp or teens, the newest edition to Camp Bowen’s lineup exciting programs!

This week-long camp was created on the success of our 10month blindness / DeafBlindness skills training program. It is specifically designed for teens, aged thirteen to nineteen,who are blind, DeafBlind, or have low vision.This week-long camp was created on the success of our 10 month blindness / DeafBlindness skills training program. At the Foundations of Independence Camp, we’re all about empowering teens with the skills they need to live life to the fullest. From basic cooking and travel skills to mastering assistive technology, our workshops and fun activities will set you on a path to independence and success. Led by our expert independent living skills and cane travel instructors, you’ll not only learn valuable skills, but also make lifelong friendships and discover the joys of recreation in an inclusive and supportive environment.

What sets Camp Bowen apart is its exceptional staff. This camp has a wonderful group of caring instructors, including positive blind, low vision, and DeafBlind mentors. They offer practical advice, demonstrating their confidence and competence and showing campers what’s possible when you believe in yourself.

And if that wasn’t enough to get you excited, this camp balances recreation and skills learning, with a focus on fun and friendship! Campfires, hikes, community outings, self-defense, swimming / boating, board games are just some of the activities Camp Bowen offers. The skills taught through these fun activities prepare youth for truly life-long independence and build their confidence.
