The division recognizes the role social media plays in modern communication. As such, we respect the right of staff to use social networks for self-publishing and self-expression while adhering to our division policy. Staff commentary is not only a direct reflection of that individual personally but also the COBD and division brands. Commentary that is considered defamatory, obscene, proprietary or libellous by any offended party could subject staff to personal liability and damage the reputation of COBD and the division. Once it’s on the Internet, it’s there forever. Staff are at all times a representative of COBD and the division regardless of how or when they are posting on social media.
Staff are to work out problems in person or via private communication channels and not air personal grievances on social media.
Harassing, threatening, discriminating against or disparaging any individuals through social media will not be tolerated.
Sharing any organization-privileged information, including organization-issued documents, through social media will not be tolerated.
Sharing photographs of participants or other staff, without their permission, through social media is prohibited.
Staff are to contact their Division Executive Director or their designate immediately if contacted by the media or press about any post that relates to COBD or division business.
Staff are to report any violations of this policy to the Division Executive Director.
Violations of this policy will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination. Where necessary, the division will advise appropriate officials of any violations of law.
Best Practice:
Only the Division Executive Director or their designate will speak officially on behalf of the division.
Only the Division Executive Director or their designate will post information on the division website or social media.
