Announcing the Blind Youth In Charge Program

The Pacific Training Centre for the Blind (PTCB) has received a Telus Community Grant for $15,000 for its Blind Youth in Charge Project.

The objective of this project is to increase the independence, quality of life and connectedness, social integration and leadership skills of young adults who are blind and low vision.

The project, led by blind youth, will consist of social and recreational activities, workshops and blindness skills training.

Sessions will be held twice a month from October – March 2020 at the Pacific Training Centre for the blind, 102 – 814 Broughton Street, Victoria.

Most sessions will also be accessible by conference call for those youth who live outside Greater Victoria who wish to participate.

The project aims to provide a fun, upbeat, supportive environment where blind young adults can enjoy social and recreational activities, learn new skills and share positive strategies for dealing with blindness in a positive way.

Anyone 19 years or over and who is legally blind or experiencing vision loss is eligible to enroll, free of charge, in the project. Activity and transportation costs will be subsidized (or free of charge in some cases).

PTCB would like to hear from blind youth who would like to know more about participating or enrolling in the project. If you are interested, please contact us by October 1, 2019. Email , phone +1 (778) 817-0482, or phone +1 (888) 497-1782.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Warmly
Elizabeth Lalonde, PTCB Executive Director
