Job Summary

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people? Camp Bowen is looking for enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our team as Camp Health Support Staff!

Our camp provides a supportive and inclusive environment where blind, DeafBlind, and low vision campers can explore their interests, build lifelong friendships, and develop new skills. As a Camp Health Support Staff, you’ll play a key role in making this magic happen for campers with unique needs.

You’ll help with daily living tasks campers cannot perform on their own. This is ideal for a nursing student or similar. Housing and food are provided during the week of camp.

Job Duties

  1. Assist campers with unique needs with daily living tasks as needed using a participant-centred approach.
  2. Help administer medications
  3. Provide services as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  1. Experience in nursing (including nursing students) or another relevant field
  2. Experience working with people who have various disabilities an asset
  3. Strong belief in the abilities of blind and DeafBlind people.
  4. Ability to assist with daily living tasks for campers who have limited movement
  5. Ability to maintain and administer all medications and oversee the administration of medication
  6. Detail oriented and organized.
  7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  8. Willingness to be flexible.
  9. Ability to deal effectively with questions or problems, seeking assistance when needed.
  10. Ability to exhibit emotional control, patience, persistence, initiative, and effective decision making in emergency situations.
  11. Ability to make decisions using sound judgment with information at hand.
  12. Sensitivity to, and appreciation of, participants’ diverse backgrounds.
  13. 20 years of age or older.
  14. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
