How to Book Your Coaching Calls!

The real strength of this program is that you have access too a Registered Kinesiologist (a registered Healthcare professional- that’s me), who can help sit down and chat with you to go over your unique situation, goals, needs, etc. Then we can create a plan for you…and keep in touch regularly to ensure you are MOTIVATED and on track.
This is all FREE to you, thanks to the Canadian Council of the Blind.

Government Releases Poverty Reduction Legislation

People with disabilities are twice as likely to live in poverty as those without disabilities. On October 2, 2018, Government introduced the Poverty Reduction Strategy Act – the legislation guiding B.C.’s first Poverty Reduction Strategy which will be released in March 2019. The Act sets poverty reduction targets and timelines that the government must meet, including reducing B.C.’s overall poverty rate by 25% in the next five years. The legislation is shaped by the experiences, voices and hopes of more than 8,500 people who took part in a broad public engagement on poverty.

Stay Up-to-Date on the Accessible Canada Act

The Federal Accessibility Legislation Alliance (FALA) includes a number of non-profit organizations who are consulted with the federal government on Bill C-81 – the Accessible Canada Act. They have created a website that offers a great plain-language resource to learn more about the legislation, as well as the option to sign up for e-mail updates.

RDSP Awareness Month

This October is the sixth annual RDSP Awareness month, focused on raising awareness and uptake of Registered Disability Savings Plans (RDSPs) in B.C. As of last year, 37% of eligible British Columbians have an RDSP. Through initiatives like Access RDSP, more eligible people are getting the supports they need to secure an RDSP and start saving for their future.

Watch for Access RDSP ads on platforms such as CBC, Facebook, Reddit, Google, and the Doctors of BC Newsletter.

Perception Massage

Editor’s note: This was originally slated for an unreleased volume of Blind News Victoria.

Coming soon to Greater Vancouver (Vancouver or Burnaby), Perception Massage is looking for full-time or part-time RMTs to join a start-up massage clinic that offers a unique customer experience. By employing RMTs who are blind or low vision, we are tackling the fronts of underemployment of people who are blind or low vision, as well as ensuring they have the proper tools and coaching to succeed as RMTs in our growing field. Successful business fronts built on social responsibility practices have been soaring in popularity in recent years, and building on this, we hope to employ the best and brightest in our field.
You will have the opportunity to become involved with the set-up of the clinic prior to its opening, giving you the opportunity to establish your practice how you’d like.
